Patrick Dorgu is back in Manchester United training a day before Roma, and Amad was out there with him. Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw weren’t. That’s the picture from Monday morning’s open session at Carrington, the club confirms, and it’s backed up by PA and GiveMeSport.
United host Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday, kick-off 3 PM ET (8 PM UK). It’s a Champions League night Michael Carrick badly needs to win.

Dorgu’s back sooner than expected
Dorgu hurt his hamstring on Denmark duty during the September international break and hasn’t played for United since. The club’s own report says he looks to have recovered “ahead of schedule”, and he was part of the group working in front of the cameras.
Being in training isn’t the same as being fit to start. GiveMeSport says he’s in contention for the squad, but nobody’s said he’s ready for 90 minutes against a side as organised as Gian Piero Gasperini’s. A place on the bench looks the realistic hope.
Even so, it’s an option Carrick hasn’t had. He’s another body for the left side, and with Shaw still out, that’s where United have been thinnest.
Amad’s fine, Rashford and Shaw aren’t
Amad was forced off in the second half of Saturday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge, and that looked like another problem. He trained on Monday, the club says, and GiveMeSport expects him to be available.
The absentees are the same names as last week. Shaw, Rashford, Manuel Ugarte and Benjamin Sesko weren’t spotted, per the club, and PA’s report also notes there was no sign of Rashford or Shaw as they continue their recovery. Sesko isn’t expected back until the new year, as we covered last week.
Rashford’s absence is the one that hurts most for this game. He wasn’t in the squad at Chelsea either, and there’s still no word on when he’ll be back.
Martinez and Yoro are both available
Two selection questions answer themselves. Lisandro Martinez’s suspension for the red card at Chelsea is a domestic one, so it rules him out of Aston Villa on Sunday but not Roma. Leny Yoro’s European ban has been served, in the defeat to Como.
Whether Carrick trusts Martinez again so soon after Saturday is a different question. Yoro’s return gives him a straight alternative in the middle of the back four.
What’s next
Carrick’s due to speak to the media after training on Monday, the club says, so there should be a firmer word on Dorgu and Amad before kick-off. He’s set to stay in charge for this game and Villa, as we reported on Sunday, with his position under review over the international break.
A fit Dorgu doesn’t fix United’s form. But this week has had little good news in it, and a left-sided player back on the grass counts as some.
