Carrick: Lisandro Martínez “Felt His Thigh” at Leeds, and He’s a Doubt for Como

Graphic quoting Michael Carrick that Lisandro Martínez felt his thigh a little bit at Leeds, saying he's a doubt for Como, with kick-off at 12:45 PM ET on Wednesday.

Lisandro Martínez came off at half-time at Elland Road because of his thigh. Michael Carrick said so after the draw with Leeds: “He felt his thigh a little bit.” Nobody’s said how bad it is, and United are in Como on Wednesday.

That answers the question we left open on Sunday. It was a knock, not a decision about the player.

What Carrick said

The line came after the game, and it’s all he gave. The Evening Standard carried it on Sunday evening and Sports Mole had the same words overnight, noting he offered nothing else on Martínez. talkSPORT is credited with the quote in other reports too.

There’s been no scan result, no timeline and no club statement. The Standard says it isn’t yet clear how serious it is. That’s where it stands on Monday morning, and we’re not going to guess past it.

When we wrote about the substitution during the game, there were three explanations on the table: a knock nobody saw, a tactical change, or a call about the player after his week. Given the Madrid interview, the third one was always going to be the loudest theory. Carrick’s answer puts it to bed.

Why it matters for Como

Noussair Mazraoui replaced him at the break, as Sky Sports and the Standard both record. Mazraoui had only just come back from a knock of his own, and he went straight into the back line for the second half.

Wednesday’s trip is to the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in the Champions League. Goal gives kick-off as 12:45 PM ET (5:45 PM UK), and Sports Mole has the same UK time. Both the Standard and Sports Mole say Martínez is a doubt for it.

The defence was already thin. Sports Mole lists Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu as major doubts too, and Carrick said before the Spurs game that Dorgu looks like being out for “a number of weeks”. Losing Martínez as well would leave Carrick short of left-sided options again.

What we don’t know

Whether he trains this week, whether he’s had a scan, and whether he travels. The next real information should come from Carrick’s pre-match press conference before Como, and we’ll cover it when he speaks.

The full game is in our Leeds match report.

Sources: Carrick’s “He felt his thigh a little bit” from the Evening Standard (Tashan Deniran-Alleyne, via AOL, 18 Oct 2026) and Sports Mole (Lewis Nolan, 19 Oct 2026), which also support the severity being unknown and Martínez being a doubt for Como. The half-time change for Mazraoui from Sky Sports (19 Oct 2026) and the Standard. Kick-off time and venue from Goal (19 Oct 2026) and Sports Mole. Carrick’s Dorgu quote from the Evening Standard’s injury round-up (19 Oct 2026); Shaw and Dorgu as doubts from Sports Mole. Left out because we couldn’t confirm it from two sources: any report that Martínez was hobbling before the break, any date for a further update, and any claim about who else is suspended or unavailable for Como.
