Half-time graphic for Leeds United 0-1 Manchester United on 18 October 2026: Mbeumo scored on 35 minutes from a Tielemans assist, with the figure three for Senne Lammens' first-half saves and a note that Leeds had 65 per cent of the ball.

Manchester United lead 1-0 at Elland Road at half-time. Bryan Mbeumo scored on 35 minutes from a Youri Tielemans cross. Leeds have had almost two-thirds of the ball, and Senne Lammens has made three saves to keep them out. Lisandro Martínez didn’t come out for the second half: Noussair Mazraoui replaced him at the break.

The goal

Third time lucky. Tielemans has been United’s supply line all half. On 27 minutes he found Mbeumo unmarked in the box and the header went just wide. Six minutes later he slipped him through on the left and Trafford saved. Two minutes after that he crossed again, and this time Mbeumo slid in and finished low with his left foot into the bottom corner.

ESPN credits Tielemans with the assist. He’s playing at ten, between Amad and Bruno Fernandes, and every one of Mbeumo’s three attempts came from his passes.

Lammens holds Leeds off

Leeds have had the ball. The Premier League’s figures at the break show 65.4% possession for Leeds to United’s 34.6%, but the shot count is level at four apiece, with three on target for Leeds and two for United, which tells you how little the extra possession has produced.

All three of Leeds’ shots on target were saved by Lammens. Nico Elvedi headed a Stach cross towards the top corner on 26 minutes. Ao Tanaka tried from distance just after the goal, and Jayden Bogle shot from inside the box on 42 minutes. Dominic Calvert-Lewin also headed narrowly wide from a Bogle ball. For all that pressure, Leeds haven’t won a corner yet.

Martínez off at the break

Martínez started in his first game since the Atlético interview, and Mazraoui came on for him at half-time. Why? Nobody had said when this was published. ESPN’s commentary doesn’t record an injury stoppage for him in the first half. Mazraoui’s arrival means another reshuffle of a back four already missing Luke Shaw.

Update, 55 minutes: Leeds equalised through Dominic Calvert-Lewin on 51 minutes, six minutes after Martínez went off. No reason for the change had been given by then. We look at the substitution, what the match data shows and the week behind it here.

Bookings and the rest

Bruno Fernandes was booked on 17 minutes for a late challenge on Tarik Muharemović, and Gabriel Gudmundsson two minutes later. Andrey Santos needed treatment around the 20-minute mark but carried on. Amad got clean through once, but Trafford came off his line and won the ball.

United arrived five games without a win in all competitions. They’re 45 minutes from ending that run, against a Leeds side that will keep coming at them. Carrick said on Friday that Elland Road would bring “a little bit extra again on Sunday against us.” That’s what United have faced so far.
