Mbeumo Brace Sinks Atlético Madrid in Stockholm

Mbeumo brace sees off Atlético at the Strawberry Arena

Manchester United beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm on Saturday, August 1, in the toughest test of pre-season so far. Atlético struck first through Arnau Ortiz in the 5th minute, but Bryan Mbeumo pulled United level from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute before adding a second in the 74th, poking home after a smart low cross. A strong response from Carrick’s side against a European heavyweight.

Rotation policy continues

United made wholesale changes at half-time and again in the 73rd and 82nd minutes as Carrick continued to manage minutes across the squad, with Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount, and Harry Maguire all involved. United finished the game with 53% possession and outshot Atlético on target, 5 to 4.

Up next: PSG in Gothenburg

United’s pre-season tour continues on August 8 against Paris Saint-Germain at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, before further friendlies against Leeds United and AC Milan ahead of the Premier League opener.
