Patrick Dorgu is back at Carrington being assessed for a suspected hamstring injury, and there’s no scan result and no timeline yet. That’s the position as of Wednesday, and it’s a correction: an earlier version of this post said a scan had confirmed a tear and around ten weeks out. It hadn’t. Those reports were from January. The details are on the source line below.
What’s actually known
Dorgu went off after 30 minutes of Denmark’s 2-0 win over Wales in Copenhagen on Sunday, holding the back of his left thigh. Denmark ruled him out of their last two games of the window, against Portugal and Wales, and called up Andreas Skov Olsen and Nikolas Nartey in his place, per the federation’s squad update carried by Tipsbladet.
ESPN’s Rob Dawson reported on Monday that he received treatment in the Danish camp for a suspected hamstring injury and returned to Carrington for more tests with United’s medical staff. Hayters reported the same. Nobody has published what those tests found, and neither United nor Denmark has named the injury or put a date on his return.
Why the timeline matters
United’s first week back is Tottenham at Old Trafford on 10 October, AtlĂ©tico Madrid away on the 13th and Leeds away on the 18th. Whether Dorgu is available for any of that depends on a diagnosis that doesn’t exist yet.
The history is why people fear the worst. He missed weeks last season with a hamstring injury picked up at the Emirates in January, on the day he scored in the 3-2 win over Arsenal, and the estimate then was around ten weeks. Whether this is the same muscle hasn’t been reported. It’s also why January’s headlines are being mistaken for this week’s.
The left-back problem it exposes
Luke Shaw is the only senior left-back in the squad, and he missed three matchday squads in September without a full explanation from the club. Dorgu covered him against Sabah and in the derby. Noussair Mazraoui filled in on the left in the cup against Brighton, and Mazraoui himself went off holding his back for Morocco on Tuesday.
United can still sign a free agent outside the window. We made the case for a left-back on Monday, and nothing since has weakened it.
We’ll update when United say what the scan showed.
Correction, 30 September 2026: this post was published on 29 September under the headline “Dorgu’s Hamstring Scan Confirms Tear, Set for Ten Weeks Out”, saying that a scan on Monday 28 September had confirmed a hamstring tear with an estimate of around ten weeks, citing The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell and Fabrizio Romano. Those reports were published on 27 January 2026 and concerned the hamstring injury Dorgu suffered against Arsenal that month, not the injury he suffered against Wales on 27 September. No scan result for the current injury has been published. The post has been rewritten to the facts that are verified, and the headline changed.
